equine massage Programs and Benefits

Rehabilitation Massage

Rehabilitation Massage is beneficial for horses with age-related issues like arthritis, or Cushing's Disease, IR, PSSM, laminitis or are recovering from an injury or surgery.

I will work with your veterinarian, farrier and others involved with your horse's care to develop a Rehabilitation Massage program to:

  • Relieve pain
  • Restore function
  • Aid in proper scar formation
  • Improve locomotor function
  • Alleviate boredom due to decreased activity
  • Stimulate immune system
  • Assist with surgical recovery

Sessions should take place daily or weekly depending upon severity

Pre and Post Event Massage

Why performance massage? Strenuous exercise places demands on your horse's body.  A regular program of pre-event and post-event massage is important in maintaining muscle health, joint flexibility and improving circulation and respiration.  Without massage, exercised muscles can tighten and create discomfort, trigger and stress points can form, and loss of performance and risk of injuries can occur.

Pre-Event Massage

· Warms the tissues to get them ready for activity

· Increases circulation

· Reduces muscle and mental tension

· Increases flexibility

· Improves muscle elasticity

· Reduces risk of injury

Post-Event Massage

· Flushes waste products that accumulate during exercise, which speeds recovery

· Keeps muscles and joints flexible

· Improves range of motion

· Calms the nerves

Sessions should take place up to 24 hours before or 48 hours after event
